First sightings

Our first glimpse of wild animals was the Elephant.  Weighing between 11,000-14,000 pounds.  Their life span is about 60 yrs.
They are the largest land animal.  The males weigh twice as much as the females . Both male and female have tusks that become visible at 2-3 years of age and continue to grow throughout their life.  They have a throaty rumble or growl but bellowing or trumpeting will signal others of alarm or danger.  They live in family groups of 10-15.  They sleep standing up and eat grass, leaves, reeds, seed pods, wild fruits.  They can consume 300-400 pounds a day and drink 30-60 gallons of water
